James brings excitement as Dirrell, Yildirim battle for title at Armory Saturday

Weigh-ins were held at 1 o’clock this afternoon for the Premier Boxing Champions card at the Minneapolis Armory tomorrow night.

Minneapolis’ own Jamal James, the number 3 ranked welterweight by the WBA, weighed in at 145. 8 pounds against the 146.6 pound weight of his opponent, Janer Gonzales. For the main event, a fight for the vacant WBC super middleweight championship, former champion Anthony Dirrell and top contenter Avni Yilidrim both weighed in at the 168 pound limit.

The event will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1 and Fox Deportes beginning at 9:00 p.m. The event is likely to sell out and the first fight begins at 5:30 p.m. There are a total of 11 fights scheduled with 6 planned for broadcast. In addition to the 12 round WBC World super middleweight fight between Dirrell and Yildirim and the 10 round fight between James and Gonzalez, the fights scheduled for broadcast are an 8 round battle between middleweights Morcos Hernandez, Frezno, CA, 12-1-1 (3 KOs) and Jeison Rosario, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic 17-1-1 (12 KOs); welterweights Bryant Perrella, Fort Myers, FL, 15-2 (13 KOs) and Breidis Prescott, Barrasquilla, Colombia, 31-15 (22 KOs), 8 rounds; a fight of either 4 or 6 rounds (as printed on fight card) pitting Money Powell IV, Fort Mitchell, AL, 8-0 (4 KOs) against Javier Frazier, Aiken, SC 8-8-1 (4 KOs); and Justin Paouldo, Orlando, FL, 11-1 (5 KOs) vs. Federico Malespina, Buenos Aires, Argentina, 16-10-2 (2 KOs), 8 rounds.
